Horse Lake Reserve

WENATCHEE, WA – Mule deer herds need a quiet place to save energy during the lean winter months.

To preserve native plant habitat and be a good neighbor, contractors and CDLT staff are spraying weeds at Horse Lake Reserve and near Balsamroot Trail. All herbicides are applied with a blue dye. Click on the link below for the product label.

Weed spraying is subject to change due to weather and other variables.

Starting today, Nov. 17, there will be crews at Horse Lake Reserve near the lower barn/lower end of Burts Trail doing restoration work. Crews will be planting native seedlings on Wed, Nov 17 then later in the week and possibly into early next week, they will be applying herbicide.

Horselake Road in Wenatchee, which leads to the popular Horse Lake Reserve trails, is now closed because of extreme hot and dry conditions and a concern over wildfires.

Horse Lake Road may be closed intermittently this month as utility poles are replaced.

Monday, September 28 (weather permitting) a contractor will be spraying herbicide on Russian knapweed at Horse Lake Reserve in the Glacier View trail area and near the access road north of the lower barn. They will be using ATVs for the application. No closures.

WENATCHEE — The Horse Lake Trail Runs scheduled for May 9 have been postponed until September 19 as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, RunWenatchee announced in a press release Tuesday.

Burts Trail meanders from the former location (now just the foundation is left) of the Burts’ family homestead barn at Horse Lake Reserve and connects to the lower end of Glacier View Trail. It provides unique views to the north of Burch Mountain and the open spaces of the northern portion of the Reserve.

Chelan-Douglas Land Trust volunteers made “Horse Lake Preserves” in the kitchen at NCW Technical Skills Center as a fundraiser for the organization. The preserves, made from the dry-land apricots at Horse Lake Reserve, will be available for a donation at the Land Trust Annual Dinner.
