Bird Monitoring at Horse Lake Reserve

Join Conservation Fellow, Susan Ballinger, to conduct bird monitoring at Horse Lake Reserve.

Since 2016, CDLT has been collecting monthly bird use data, April-October, at 7 stationary locations on the reserve.  The project was started after the 2012 and 2015 wildfires burned the shrubby ravines, which are essential nesting habitat for more than 40 neotropical migrant and resident birds. No birding experience required. All are welcome!

The round-trip walking time is 4-5 hours, with a round-trip hike distance of 5.3 miles and 1,120 elevation gain, on single-track trails. We conduct the surveys between 6am-11am.

Registration is encouraged. Once you register, you will receive an email with the final logistics, including the meeting location, time, and carpool details. Please register below!
