New nature preserve protects high-quality shrub-steppe in Douglas County.

High quality shrub-steppe wildlife habitat protected

The Spiva Butte Nature Preserve consists of some of the most pristine shrub-steppe habitat left in Washington State. The 1,396-acre preserve provides critical habitat for one of the last two viable Greater sage-grouse populations remaining in the state.

In late December 2002, the Musland family donated a conservation easement on their Camel Springs property in Douglas County to the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust.

Douglas County is home to some of the best intact shrub-steppe habitat in the state and one of two populations of Greater Sage Grouse remaining in the state. CDLT is increasing our work in Douglas Co., with several major projects in development.
