The Chelan-Douglas Land Trust held a work party on Saturday morning to reconstruct two sections of fence to prevent vehicles from trespassing on the road into the reserve. This coincided with the opening of dirt portion of Horse Lake Road which has been closed since the fire in the area in the summer.
The third-annual Horse Lake Trail Runs were held under sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s and 60s at race time. The event, held on the sprawling Horse Lake Reserve owned by the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust, attracted a field of 187 athletes.
RunWenatchee is adding a new twist to Saturday’s Horse Lake Trail Runs — a new half-marathon course that will have runners doing a complete loop of the Horse Lake Reserve for the first time.
Starting Friday, May 4th and continuing until Monday, May 7th, there is a temporary closure of Horse Lake Reserve for restoration work involving herbicide application. Sage Hills and all areas south of Horse Lake Reserve will still be open, and the Horse Lake trailhead and viewpoint trail will also be open.
