Temporary Horse Lake Closure, May 4-7

Submitted on

Starting Friday, May 4th and continuing until Monday, May 7th, there is a temporary closure of Horse Lake Reserve for restoration work involving herbicide application. Sage Hills and all areas south of Horse Lake Reserve will still be open, and the Horse Lake trailhead and viewpoint trail will also be open. This temporary closure is part of  a multi-year restoration project to restore native habitat in the Reserve's former agricultural fields. Work began in the spring of 2011 by BFI Native Seeds that will continue through the next several years:

  • Remove highly competitive exotic plants, including noxious weeds
  • Prepare a seedbed and plant locally collected native grasses
  • Continue to control non-native, invading weeds
  • Plant locally collected native wildflowers
  • Monitor progress and fix problems
