Wenatchee Foothills Open House
Public invited to finalize a community vision and strategy for the Wenatchee Foothills.

After a year of hard work and public outreach, the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust (CDLT) and The Trust for Public Land (TPL) will host an open house with the City of Wenatchee and Chelan County to share key findings and gather community input on the Wenatchee Foothills Community Strategy.

What: Wenatchee Foothills Community Strategy Open House

When: Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Time: 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Where: Wenatchee Community Center, 504 S Chelan Avenue

“We’re very interested in hearing what people think about the draft plan,” says Kitty Craig, Washington Program Manager from The Trust for Public Land. “We’ve already incorporated a lot of great public input, and this is our last chance to make sure we haven’t missed anything in the process.”

This will be the final opportunity for public input before the completed plan is released later this summer. The plan already includes input garnered from a public workshop and several focus groups hosted by CDLT, TPL, County, and City, and in-depth input from local leaders, landowners, and representatives for recreation, wildlife, and development interests.

“Our goal is balancing all the factors influencing the future of the foothills,” explained Bob Bugert, Executive Director of the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust. “The final plan has to address multiple issues including overuse and user conflicts, balancing private property rights with public use, and preserving our rural character, natural resources, and public access. With the help of the community, I think we can find common ground and establish a good plan for the foothills.”

“Public participation is crucial to the long-term success of the Foothills Community Strategy,” says Chelan County Commissioner Keith Goehner. “Finding the right balance of development, recreation, and conservation will benefit everyone.”
