Broadview Heights property permanently secured for people and wildlife

Real estate broker and developer supports Wenatchee Foothills Campaign

WENATCHEEChelan-Douglas Land Trust and The Trust for Public Land announced the permanent protection of Jack Corning’s 285-acre Broadview Heights property in the north Wenatchee Foothills.

This project is the third major victory for the Wenatchee Foothills Campaign. This campaign is a multi-million dollar fundraising effort that is raising private dollars to permanently protect and care for undeveloped land and trails throughout the Wenatchee Foothills. A very generous donation from property owners John (Jack) and Mary Ann Corning and The John’s Real Estate Corporation contributed to the success of this project.

This property was at high risk of development. It is above Maiden Lane and the Broadview subdivision and had been recently re-zoned for 80 residential lots. Protecting this property provides a “missing link” by connecting the urban growth boundary by Broadview Heights to the Horse Lake Reserve, ensuring that people and wildlife will always have access.

“We feel fortunate that the property was sold for such a commendable conservation project and that we were able to be a part of making it happen,”said Jack Corning, property owner and long-time real estate broker and developer.

Grounded in years of community input and grassroots support, the Wenatchee Foothills Campaign will raise funding for conservation projects between Saddle Rock and Horse Lake Reserve, purchasing, restoring and maintaining natural lands and trails along the city’s edge.

“This is a huge milestone in implementing our community’s goal to secure key properties in the Wenatchee Foothills for recreation and conservation, and for our overall quality of life. We are making tremendous progress in ensuring that the Wenatchee Foothills will continue to anchor our distinctly livable community for generations to come. The Foothills Campaign is a great example of what our community can do, when we have a common goal,” said Bob Bugert, Executive Director of the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust.

“This is a reflection of how the community views and values the strong partnership between The Trust for Public Land and Chelan-Douglas Land Trust. We’re creating a legacy for the health and well-being of the entire region,” said Mike Deller, Washington State Director of The Trust for Public Land.
