Land Trust Restructures to Implement Ambitious Goals

Bob Bugert to take on new role at local conservation organization

WENATCHEE — The Chelan-Douglas Land Trust will soon begin its search for a new Executive Director. Bob Bugert, the Land Trust’s Executive Director for almost 9 years, will be taking on a new half-time position with the organization, Director of Strategic Partnerships.

The Land Trust has received three-year grant funding to increase staff capacity to help implement the ambitious goals of its new five-year Strategic Plan. Increasing staff capacity will allow the Land Trust to accomplish more in their grassroots work to create healthy and sustainable lands, waters, and communities.

“We are forging new partnerships that provide fresh resources and additional opportunities for undertaking larger landscape and community projects that we haven’t had the means or the capacity to pursue in the past,” says Board President David Visser. “Bob’s transition into the role of Director of Strategic Partnerships is consistent with the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust’s growth as an organization, and more importantly, it is consistent with the objectives in our strategic plan.”

In his new role, Bugert will focus on partnerships—locally, regionally and nationally—that provide new capabilities and opportunities for undertaking larger landscape-scale projects of both ecological and economic significance to North Central Washington.

“Freeing up my time to focus on partnerships makes the most of my background, experience and passion, to increase our impact and effectiveness in our mission of engaging communities in conserving, caring for, and accessing the natural lands and waters that sustain North Central Washington,” said Bugert. “Now, we have a chance to further this journey to foster a culture of conservation and livable communities here, in this region of remarkable beauty.”

The Land Trust is beginning the search (at local, regional, and national levels) for the next Executive Director. The candidate will be someone who understands that healthy landscapes and robust local economies are inextricably linked—and can articulate that philosophy. She or he will build on the vision of an interconnected and sustainable land base in our region—with a growing focus on healthy forests, healthy kids, and healthy communities.

The Chelan-Douglas Land Trust is a local non-profit working to conserve our land, our water, and our way of life. The Land Trust has a 30-year record of working collaboratively with property owners and communities to identify and protect the region’s most important natural landscapes forever.
