We all have those memories from childhood: finding a robin’s eggshell under a tree, shaping the flow of water in a creek or at the beach, or watching an army of ants carry food to their colony.
I remember collecting seashells and exploring the chaparral plains with my beloved collie on the Gulf Coast.
Whether we realize it or not, these self-guided, outdoor experiences helped us become the people we are today. These kinds of memories are fading quickly for younger generations. Kids today have less opportunity — and encouragement — to get outside than their parents before them.
