Abe Sorom and his sons were the first ones to hit the Sage Hills Trail from the north as the popular trail system opened for the season Tuesday.
“We’ve been waiting for opening day,” he said, after completing a ride from the trail head off Horse Lake Road back to their home at the western edge of Wenatchee. “It just happened to coincide with spring break, so the boys got to come out, too.”
The foothills trails have been closed west of Fifth Street since Dec. 1 to protect wintering mule deer. They reopen every year on April 1.
