Prescribed Burn Planned at Mountain Home Ridge Near Leavenworth

Leavenworth, WA — Chelan-Douglas Land Trust (CDLT), Cascadia Prescribed Burn Association, and Cascadia Conservation District will conduct a prescribed burn at Mountain Home Ridge, a CDLT conservation property located three miles south of Leavenworth. Prescribed burning is planned over multiple days in small management units and may continue through April if weather conditions allow.

All trails on the Mountain Home Ridge property are closed during prescribed burning operations and will reopen once burning is complete. Visitors are asked to respect the closure for public and crew safety. Updates will be posted at cdlandtrust.org.

This burn is part of a multi-year forest management effort following extensive thinning and pile burning completed over the past five years. The work is intended to improve forest health, wildlife habitat, and increase resilience to insects, disease, and future wildfire.

Smoke will be highly visible throughout the Leavenworth area. The prescribed burn will only take place when weather conditions allow for safe and effective operations, including minimizing smoke impacts to nearby communities. Smoke may be visible in the Leavenworth area during burning. While smoke from prescribed fire is minimal and temporary compared to wildfire, individuals who are sensitive to smoke are encouraged to take precautions.

The Cascadia Prescribed Burn Association works with trained community volunteers to help carry out prescribed fire projects across the region. Those interested in volunteering or learning more about prescribed burning can visit cascadiapba.org.

CDLT thanks the Cascadia Conservation District for logistical support and the Washington Department of Natural Resources for financial support of this work.
