We are thrilled to share the news that an agreement has been reached that officially puts construction of any hatchery facilities along the White River on hold until at least 2026, and then only if supported by an independent scientific review of artificial supplementation on the White River.
The Chelan-Douglas Land Trust has advocated consistently that hatchery supplementation on the White River has numerous risks, and is not supported by independent science. Land Trust members and leadership have attended countless meetings over the past seven years, both public and private, expressing our concerns and advocating for a different approach for mitigating Priest Rapids Dam’s impacts on salmon.
It is gratifying that Grant County PUD, state, federal and tribal agency representative, known as the Priest Rapids Coordinating Committee, have reached this agreement. Grant County PUD is very pleased with the terms of this agreement, which allows them to be a good neighbor while meeting the terms of their federal license.
Thank you for your tireless support of healthy habitat along the White River – it really is making a difference!
