Land deal to preserve eastside Loop Trail shoreline

EAST WENATCHEE — A coveted natural area, including sand dunes, rock outcroppings and scrubland between the eastside Apple Capital Recreation Loop Trail and Columbia River will be preserved in perpetuity by a land deal, announced Monday, between multiple agencies and a private donor.

“It’s about time!” said Chelan County PUD Commissioner Dennis Bolz during the announcement that the state Department of Transportation will sell approximately one mile — 25 acres — of unneeded shoreline land to the PUD and Chelan-Douglas Land Trust. The sale amount is still undisclosed.
