Happy Trail Opening Day! It’s not a formal local holiday yet, but it might as well be.
April Fools’ jokes aside, April 1 is the day the Wenatchee Foothills trails re-open for recreation and public access after a seasonal closure to protect winter mule deer habitat. In fact, this Dec. 1-March 31 annual closure is probably most important in springtime; this is when the greatest numbers of migratory mule deer are actually observed in the Foothills, looking for calories and nutrition after a long winter.
