Collaboration hopes to spur larger forest health projects

For years, Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest officials have known that thinning and burning areas deprived of fire for a hundred years improve the health of tree stands and help prevent catastrophic wildfires.

What they haven't known is how they will ever catch up with the hundreds of thousands of acres that need to be treated.

Now, a collaboration of environmental groups, timber industry representatives and state, local and tribal governments is stepping in to help.
