Sand dunes area of loop trail preserved for public use

EAST WENATCHEE — The much-loved sand dunes, beach and unique rock outcroppings on the Douglas County side of the Apple Capital Recreation Loop Trail are on their way to becoming preserved for public use — forever.

Chelan County PUD commissioners Monday authorized the utility to buy an approximately 1-mile strip of Columbia River shoreline, from Odabashian Bridge south, with help the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust and a $250,000 donation from Cliff and Mary Bates of Quincy.
