A First Step

I agree with The World’s Editorial Board (March 11) that the transfer of the Loop Trail Corridor to the City of East Wenatchee and Douglas County is an important milestone in the work to maintain this tremendous asset for our community. We owe a huge thanks to Rep. Mike Armstrong for his work to make this process happen in the House of Representatives and Sen. Linda Evans Parlette for her work with the Senate. Regional Administrator Dan Sarles facilitated the process within the Department of Transportation.

Over the last year, many prominent local citizens put in a tremendous amount of time and effort at the local level to make this important step a reality. Among those are the “Our Shoreline Vision Group” which includes Dan Beardsley, Emilie Fogle, Jim Huffman, May Lou Johnson, Hank Lewis, Diane McKenzie, Bonnie Orr, Doug Pauly, Jim Russell, Mike Scott, Eliot Scull, Karen Wade and Chuck Zimmerman. Others instrumental in this process were Bob Parlette of the Complete the Loop Coalition and Andy Dappen of Wenatchee Outdoors.

Much work remains to be done on the Loop Trail, often called the crown jewel of our community, but this transfer was a key first step.
