CDLT website

Greetings,

Grab a hot cup o' something, snuggle down and read some great Land Trust news!

Here's a holiday gift that was years in the making, but well worth the wait! We are thrilled to announce the completion of a project that more than doubles the size of Saddle Rock Natural Area! Read more below.

Recently, our executive director Eunice Youmans was interviewed by NCWLIFE about what's ahead for CDLT. Watch the interview here.

Our annual campaign is a chance to have your gift—and the impact it makes—DOUBLED! Please consider making a gift before the end of the year to protect and care for the natural places you love!

Amidst the hustle and bustle of this time of year, take a moment to pause and appreciate the difference you are making for our community, for fish and wildlife, and for future generations. Thank you for making land conservation a priority in your life!

With gratitude,

Kathy Peven

Meet our Volunteers of the Year

The Land Trust relies on our wonderful volunteers for so many things. Every year at our Annual Celebration Dinner, we recognize several volunteers that have gone above and beyond. This year, we honored the contributions of four extraordinary individuals. We are SO GRATEFUL for the gifts of their expertise and time!

Gretchen Rhode

Gretchen is a skilled and seasoned bird-watcher and long-time Audubon Society member volunteer. Independently, she has conducted 20 bird surveys over the last two years, at three CDLT properties. Gretchen follows our field protocol, enters her observations into eBird, and shares it with CDLT. She commutes an hour from her Lake Wenatchee home to do this monitoring on properties that are either under restoration or are recovering after wildfire. Thank you, Gretchen!

Cathy Gaylord

Cathy Gaylord has volunteered with staff to conduct both wildflower and bird monitoring projects at Mountain Home Preserve. She helped re-locate several hundred Wenatchee Mountain checkermallow plants that the US Fish and Wildlife Service out-planted at Mountain Home.

Monthly from March to November, Cathy has done bird surveys at 5 locations at Mountain Home. This property is undergoing forest health thinning prescriptions, and bird surveys are a monitoring tool we use to assess impact. Thank you, Cathy!

Community Science Volunteer Award

Daniel Hypes

Daniel has been to nearly every single outdoor event this year. He has even come to events on his lunch break. He has a great attitude and is a lot of fun to be around, not to mention a great worker. He also skillfully takes photos of the projects and shares them with us. Thank you, Daniel!

Volunteer of the Year Award

Fletcher England

Fletcher has been a regular at trail work parties–always happy to lend a hand. He’s one of the hardest workers and gets along with everybody. On multiple occasions he’s kindly redirected rule breakers while out on his own on our properties. Thank you, Fletcher!
