Join Julie Sanderson for her annual walk to see what’s in bloom along the way to Clara Lake.  The walk is open to the public, but limited to 12 participants.  Call Julie (509-663-5261) to reserve your spot.  The hike is moderately strenuous with a steep pitch at the beginning, 3 mile total round trip distance with elevation gain of 900 feet over 1.5 miles.  Bring what you need to be comfortable in the outdoors for a few hours, layered clothing, lunch, water hand lenses and all the plant books you want to carry.

Wenatchee Native Plant Society: Duffy Creek Wilflower Walk

This joint WNPS and Bureau of Land Management hike will explore the spring wildflowers of an upland lithosol environment. There are great views of the Cascades and the Waterville Plateau.  Relatively flat hike, 2.5 miles total. Wear sturdy shoes for walking over rocky and uneven ground, bring a lunch and dress for the weather, it could be breezy.  Hike is open to the public but limited to 10 people. Monument Hill Wildflower Walk

Come and enjoy a variety of shrub steppe wildflowers in season, including the ‘star of the show” the abundant hedgehog cactus in bloom.  About a 2 mile hike in all, the walk includes easy to moderately strenuous hiking with some on-trail and off-trail excursions.  Substantial hiking shoes recommended for rocky and uneven ground.  Weather most likely to be pleasant, but dress for the potential of hot or cold and breezy as well.  There are no restrooms, but there is a public rest stop 4 miles west of Quincy.  Bring water.

Washington Native Plant Society Wenatchee Valley Chapter hosts David G. James, co-author & photographer of the new field guide, Life Histories of Cascadia Butterflies. David’s talk will feature his stunning close-up digital photographs. Virtually all of the 158 butterfly species occurring in southern British Columbia, Washington, northern Idaho, and northern Oregon are included in the book. Color photographs of each stage of life—egg, every larval instar, pupa, adult—accompany information on the biology, ecology, and rearing of each species.
