Can you hear the sounds of spring? Birds are singing, wildflowers are blooming, and our event and volunteer calendar is filling up! As warmer weather calls us outside, we’re excited to welcome everyone back to the trails. Please remember that seasonal trail closures remain in place until April 1 to protect sensitive soils and wildlife. Thank you for helping care for the lands we all love!
Spring also means our stewardship team is getting ready to work alongside volunteers to care for our properties. To help support this work, we’re currently seeking in-kind donations, if you’re interested in helping, take a look at our wish list here.
And one more date to mark on your calendar! Our Annual Dinner Celebration will be held Friday, November 13 at the Wenatchee Convention Center. We’re excited to move to a larger venue this year so we can celebrate with even more Land Trust friends. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months! |

The Chelan-Douglas Land Trust and the City of Wenatchee are proud to announce the permanent protection of 134 acres in the Wenatchee Foothills, now named the Lookout Natural Area, or čkuwáx̌qən in the Nxaʔamxcín language.

Pets & People Outdoors: Jacobson Dog Walk Jacobson Preserve | Apr 4 | 10:00am-12:00pm - Explore the trail with your pup and learn about dog behavior, dog body language cues, and trail etiquette. We will have free pastries, free drinks, local vendor booths, and free dog treats!

Exploring Riparian Restoration |
|
|
Last week, CDLT partnered with Cascade Fisheries to host a field tour at Lower Sleepy Hollow during the 2026 Eastern Washington Riparian Planting Symposium.
The visit brought together restoration professionals, land managers, researchers, and practitioners from across the region to share knowledge and best practices in riparian restoration. Participants revisited the site after a similar tour in 2024 to see how earlier plantings are progressing and to observe how the floodplain responded to the historic high water in December.
Seeing the site over time helps restoration practitioners better understand what’s working, adapt future projects, and improve efforts to restore healthy riverside habitats that support fish, wildlife, and resilient floodplains. |

During our Volunteer Celebration Ceremony, we honored three incredible volunteers who have gone above and beyond in support of the Land Trust:
Heart of Stewardship Award — Paul Ballinger
Paul has dedicated more than a decade of service to CDLT, contributing over 137 volunteer hours. Much of his time is spent improving trails, but also helps with planting, replacing signs, and more!
Spirit of Outreach Award — Gretchen Daiber
Gretchen generously volunteered many hours supporting community science efforts and donated her time to create art for the Annual Dinner Celebration centerpieces.
Soul of Our Trails Award — Mike Robinson
Mike donated both equipment and expertise in 2025 to help improve the Horse Lake Trailhead, making a lasting contribution to the experience of everyone who visits the trail. |

Steve Smith has practiced law for nearly 40 years, focusing on real estate, land use, and conservation. He grew up in Waterville and has long supported land projects in Douglas County. |
|
Lexine Long, Senior Planner at Washington State Department of Commerce, combines land-use planning expertise with ecology. She holds master’s degrees in Ecology and Bioregional Planning and has field experience across the western U.S. |
|

Adopt part of the Cashmere Canyons Bluebird Trail!
We're looking for volunteers to check a total of 13 bluebird boxes from early May into July. This route includes steep, challenging terrain. Volunteers would check up on boxes and report findings and photos to help better understand cavity-nesting birds on our lands.

Explorando la restauración ribereña |
|
|
La semana pasada, CDLT se asoció con Cascade Fisheries para organizar una visita de campo en Lower Sleepy Hollow durante el Simposio de Plantación Ribereña del Este de Washington 2026.
La visita reunió a profesionales de restauración, administradores de tierras, investigadores y especialistas de toda la región para compartir conocimientos y mejores prácticas en restauración ribereña. Los participantes regresaron al sitio después de una visita similar en 2024 para ver cómo están progresando las plantaciones anteriores y observar cómo la llanura aluvial respondió al histórico nivel de agua alta en diciembre.
Ver el sitio a lo largo del tiempo ayuda a los profesionales de restauración a comprender mejor qué está funcionando, adaptar futuros proyectos y mejorar los esfuerzos para restaurar hábitats saludables junto a los ríos que apoyen a los peces, la vida silvestre y llanuras aluviales más resilientes.

Durante nuestra Ceremonia de Celebración de Voluntarios, honramos a tres voluntarios increíbles que han ido más allá en su apoyo al Land Trust:
Premio Corazón del Cuidado — Paul Ballinger
Paul ha dedicado más de una década de servicio a CDLT, con más de 137 horas de voluntariado. Gran parte de su tiempo lo dedica a mejorar senderos, pero también ayuda con plantaciones, reemplazo de señalamientos ¡y más!
Premio Espíritu Comunitario — Gretchen Daiber
Gretchen ofreció generosamente muchas horas apoyando los esfuerzos de ciencia comunitaria y donó su tiempo para crear arte para los centros de mesa de la Celebración Anual.

¡Adopta una parte del Sendero de los Azulejos de Cashmere Canyons!
Estamos buscando voluntarios para revisar un total de 13 cajas nido de azulejos desde principios de mayo hasta julio. Esta ruta incluye terreno empinado y desafiante. Los voluntarios revisarán las cajas y reportarán hallazgos y fotos para ayudar a comprender mejor a las aves que anidan en cavidades en nuestras tierras.
