Chelan-Douglas Land Trust has begun pile burning on Monday November 10th at our Mountain Home Ridge property outside Leavenworth. For public safety, all Mountain Home Ridge trails are closed until further notice.
Thinning and burning piles are key steps in reducing hazardous fuel loads in the process of restoring healthy, fire-resilient forests. After completing an 80-acre thinning project on their Mountain Home property near Leavenworth, the Chelan Douglas Land Trust is hosting a community pile burning event to safely dispose of 8 acres of hand piles.

Chelan County Public Works has closed Horse Lake Road ahead of the usual winter schedule. Recent and expected rains have made the road slippery and more vulnerable to damage.
Typically closed from Dec. 1 through April 1, this early closure helps preserve the dirt roadway and protect mule deer during the winter months.
Good news: The Horse Lake Reserve trails remain open! Visitors can still access the trails—please park at the lower gate and plan to walk or bike in. |

Earlier this month, CDLT and the Wenatchee River Institute co-hosted a two-day retreat with Tribal leaders to strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities. Sixty leaders from local nonprofits, schools, agencies, and municipalities came together to explore how to build trust, promote inclusive leadership, and support Indigenous-led initiatives.
Facilitated by Lynn Palmanteer-Holder of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, with trainers John Sirois (CDLT Board Member & CCT Traditional Territories Advisor), Darnell Sam, and Kiana Sam, the retreat offered powerful learning and dialogue. Seasonal Closure Reminder |
The last of the leaves have fallen, and winter — along with our seasonal trail closures — is just around the corner!
Be sure to get in your final few hikes in the Wenatchee Foothills north of 5th Street before trails close on or after December 1 to give migrating mule deer some space. And as the weather turns wet, remember to check trail conditions and use your best judgment to protect our soft, muddy trails.

Actualización de Horse Lake Road |
El Departamento de Obras Públicas del Condado de Chelan ha cerrado la carretera Horse Lake antes de lo habitual en el calendario de invierno. Las lluvias recientes y las previstas han dejado la carretera resbaladiza y más vulnerable a daños.
Normalmente cerrada del 1 de diciembre al 1 de abril, este cierre anticipado ayuda a conservar el camino de tierra y a proteger a los venados bura durante los meses de invierno.
