Community Open House: Sunday, June 26th, 2005 12:30 - 2:00 p.m.
at the Stanley Civic Center
The Foothills Trail system is still an undiscovered treasure for many
Wenatchee
residents. The Chelan-Douglas Land Trust and Wenatchee Valley Trails Coalition are teaming up with the City of
Wenatchee
, the Rivers and Trails Program of the National Park Service, the American Society of Landscape Architects and a diverse group of local experts to design ways to make better connections between this unique trail system and the
Wenatchee
community.
A Wenatchee Trail Connections “Charrette” (a fancy name for a design workshop) will take place at
Wenatchee
Valley
Community College
June 24-26, 2005. The charrette will focus on producing creative solutions for linking the Foothills Trail to local schools, city bike routes, neighborhood parks, Columbia Station, Art on the Avenues,
Stanley
Civic
Center
, the Riverfront Parks System, Apple Capital Loop Trail, Wenatchee Farmer’s
Mark
et and other community treasures.
The
Wenatchee
design workshop will be the fifth Community Design Charrette in a unique partnership between the National Park Service Rivers & Trails Program and the Washington Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. NPS Rivers & Trails has been providing technical assistance to the Wenatchee Trails Coalition for the past two years. Previous charrettes have been hosted by Seattle’s International District, the town of Liberty Lake, Skagit county, and Moses Lakeall with positive results that turned good ideas into on-the-ground action. This year’s designers will come from
Spokane
,
Moses
Lake
,
Covington
,
Richland
,
Seattle
,
Coeur d’Alene
,
Chattanooga
, and
Los Angeles
. They will be complemented with 10-15 members of the
Wenatchee
community to form two design teams.
A Community Open House will take place on Sunday June 26th at the
Stanley
Civic
Center
from 12:30 -2:00, when the designers will present their ideas and designs. Refreshments will be served. Come find out how trails can be a bigger part of the community you live in!
