In Memory of Dennis Garrity

As many affiliated with the Land Trust now know, Dennis Garrity, one of our board members and the vice-president of the organization, recently died following a brief illness. Most of us were taken off guard and, on top of the great sadness, we were rattled by this huge loss.

Those who knew Dennis understand when we praise him for being a kind, sincere, and supportive soul. He followed his passions and jumped in to help causes he believed in by adding his expertise, voice, and hard work. By actively engaging in life and exuding warmth, he made many friends. Those of us on the Land Trust board and staff are but a few of the many who loved him, and we are among the many who are grieving the passing of this gracious and caring man.

We are also among the many grieving for his survivors, particularly for his immediate family – his wife of 50 years, Jeanie, and his son, Michael and his wife, Elise. Life here in Wenatchee will be much changed for Jeanie and we know many within the Land Trust community are providing love and support.

A few months ago Dennis updated his board bio and he wrote,

"My nine years as part of CDLT has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.  Knowing that we are leaving a lasting legacy in the form of properties and easements that will enhance our community in perpetuity has been very satisfying.”

The Land Trust’s success is interconnected with Dennis’ efforts on our behalf. We were privileged to have Dennis as a friend and supporter, and we know he felt similarly about his involvement with us. It is hard to imagine life without Dennis’ laughter and hard work, but all of us at the Land Trust will keep his spirit and commitment alive in our work and our hearts.
